Mysterious blend of refined melancholy and power.
HEBE, Amsterdam’s emerging songstress is set to release her latest singles ‘HISTORY REPEATING’ and ‘OTHER SIDE’ from her album ‘TELL ME’ (produced by Jack van de Ven and with a co-production and mix by Huub Reijnders) in April 2018 via ‘HEBE-MUSIC’. The songs are produced by pop-producer Jack van de Ven, co- produced and mixed by Huub Reijnders and Mastered by Frans Hendriks, the tracks follow ‘TELL ME’, ‘TAKE HIM DOWN’, ‘I KNEW IT FROM THE START’ and ‘LIMITS’ which have collectively racked up over 900 thousand Spotify plays, with the former singles premiering through The 405, Noisey, EARMILK and Youtube channel Keep It Underground.
HEBE’s innate musical ability can be attributed to being born into a family of artists. Her next of kin are involved in film, theater design, and visual design, elevating her interest in music and paving the way for what was to become her chosen career path. Her debut 6 track EP “The Beginning” was released in 2015 after she gradua- ted from The Conservatory of Amsterdam (2014) and allowed a then 22 year old HEBE to begin showcasing her musical profile. In addition, HEBE has graced multiple festival stages including Share A Perfect Day Festival Beekse Bergen and Magneet Festival as well as performances at the Sugar Factory and North Sea Jazz Club Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg, Patronaat and Amsterdam ArenA.
Influenced (and often compared to) by the likes of Rhye, Lapsley, Lianne La Ha- vas, James Blake and Van Morrison, Hebe’s sound is unique in her ability to employ a wide range of tones in order to find the balance between the contrasting delicacy and power in her tracks, fusing together a blend of melancholy and ebullience.
HEBE’s latest singles ‘HISTORY REPEATING’ and ‘OTHER SIDE’ are two cinematic, electro-pop tracks that combine ethereal vocals with a lot of melancholy and a powerful melody line. The use of the piano and the guitar have a graceful comparison to James Blake. With her voice, HEBE sets the tone for a warm, calm, but emotionally charged melody that moves fluently towards a powerful chorus. “The song describes the incapability of us humans to understand, reflect or change ourselves. It is an observation of the human condition.” – says HEBE about ‘HISTORY REPEATING’. ‘OTHER SIDE’ is about love: “this song is about a love that didn’t work, about a struggle that kept going because neither of the two had the strength to end it, about a hope that lasted, because the fear of being alone was even stronger. The fear of confrontation and loss is so heavy that you try to make up for it, tell yourself it’s better to stay and hold on. In the end a break is unavoidable” – HEBE
