Dutch pianist and composer Joachim Challem (1994) was born in Holland where he grew up with his two mothers and brother. After years of studying the piano he noticed life was more then music alone. He believes that nature is the greatest teacher for all complex thoughts a human can attain. That’s why he now lives full-time in the unknown mountains of Northern Spain, where he is building his own home. In the search for it, he composed his music on different piano’s in multiple countries, environments and moods.
In 2022 he started releasing his first works – with great success. Entering classical charts at #1 and enjoying cross-platform support over 15 million streams. Next to the support of Calm Radio & ClassicNL, Challem was a regular at NPO Radio 1 & NPO Klassiek playing live and doing extensive interviews about his sequel release. Also, streaming platform TIDAL featured Challem in their 2023 ‘Classical Artists to Watch’ program, showcasing young classical artists. A release of his debut album ‘The Road’ followed in 2024, with two sold out shows in The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and a successful tour of 9 shows in Holland, Belgium, France and Spain.
The 2nd album: Dyade
“Dyade” embodies duality or the relationship between two elements. The concept often suggests that each part is incomplete without the other, making it a powerful symbol for connection, duality, and the importance of both sides in creating something whole and meaningful.
During his move to the rural mountains, Challem quickly discovered the theme of dyade, which seemed to constantly present itself. The stark contrasts between solitude and community, stillness and movement, romance and reality, reflected the balancing forces that shaped both his surroundings and his inner world.
