SUBFICTION is a veiled artist and guide of absorbing audiovisual worlds. Worlds that consist of organic elements, contaminated by technology, exploring musical landscapes beyond genres. The guide, SUBFICTION, controls these worlds through live performance and provides the audience an interface between fiction and reality. The universal creature demolishes every dance floor glitching and switching between melancholic breakbeats, IDM and narrative driven house and hip-hop.
So, now that the geek squad is satisfied, let us focus on the crazy club kids. SUBFICTION provides your naughty nightly escapades with some of the most sub-soakin’ breakbeats and flashy, futuristic visuals (I see you, you after-freaks, bassheads and rainbow ravers!). In 2022 SUBFICTION seemed to appear and disappear, often unannounced, at festivals and underground parties. No matter the venue, this Casper the fashionable ghost lookin’ character always gets every audience to go completely berserk.
In 2022 SUBFICTION released its first single ‘No Return’, toured all Dutch pop venues as part of the CTRL+ALT+DELIKT tour, hosted its own venue (inviting Dorian Concept and TEEBS amongst others) and performed as the official after-show for kindred artist Ross From Friends.
In 2023 the visual debut EP ‘SOLO’ was released. Together with choreographer Dalton Jansen and director Vincent Boy Kars the short film that interweaves dance, cinema and music was released during the International Film Festival Rotterdam. SUBFICTION continued to perform live at festivals like Grasnapolsky, Motel Mozaïque and Eendracht Festival as well as on many underground clubs. SUBFICTION toured the country with the Popronde as a 3voor12 talent (including a banger of a show at the ‘Popronde Eindfeest’ in Melkweg), performed in the 3FM live box and released its second EP ‘weird glitches ‘n’ different shakes’ at a secret basement release-rave. Where SOLO put an emphasis on the more serious and cinematic part of SUBFICTION, weird glitches ‘n’ other shakes represents the more gully club-minded side of this mysterious artist. No fillers, only killers.
2024 kicked off with an epic show at the notorious Eurosonic Noorderslag festival (The biggest showcase festival in the Netherlands), that was described in the form of a loveletter written by the most relevant music platform in the Netherlands; 3voor12. The review headlined: “At A SUBFICTION show, you’ll never want to leave” and ended by addressing all Dutch festivals and venues; “Dear festivals and venues in the Netherlands, please book this”! And so they did. In 2024 SUBFICTION toured all throughout the Netherlands, released the EP ‘we_glitch / error-1312’, the single ‘GO BIG! ps lowlands book me pls’ (nope, they didn’t) and remixes for ‘Brass Rave Unit’ and ‘Dragonfruit’, receiving support from international platforms such as Rinse FM and Clashmagazine.
In 2025 SUBFICTION is gearing up to release it’s debutalbum ENTER in the fall.
Where all releases so far have shown a slight part of the two musical sides of SUBFICTION, ENTER will show its full artistic spectrum for the first time. ENTER will be released in the spring/fall of 2025
The album will tell the story of 3 worlds through which SUBFICTION will guide you. Musically it’s a very diverse journey ranging from melancholic ambient to full on alternative hyperpop. Showing influences by artists like Aphex Twin, Fred Again and Four Tet as well as Flying Lotus and Iglooghost.
Integral part of a SUBFICTION live show are the unique and truly innovative visuals. The artist actually guides the audience’s true several virtual worlds and manipulates the elements (such as all flora and fauna) in them, using its musical instruments.
